He is a science journalist since 1996, and holds master degree in Science communication. He is currently a PhD student in Public Communication of Science.

Washington worked at Oswaldo Cruz Foundation press office from 1996 to 2000. He also worked as a collaborator for Pesquisa FAPESP magazine and for FAPESP Agency news from 2004 to 2015 —www.fapesp.br.

From 2004 to 2016 he was head of communication at the Latin-American Center on Sexuality and Human Rights (www.clam.org.br), a project housed in the Institute of Social Medicine of the State University of Rio de Janeiro.
